Welcome to the 21st Pacific Rim Real Estate Society (PRRES) hosted by Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The 2015 PRRES meeting is an IRES-branded conference. Strong links have grown between the members of the International Real Estate Society (IRES) that include PRRES. Other members of the IRES network include the American (ARES), Asian (AsRES), African (AfRES), Latin American (LaRES) and Middle East&(MENARES) Real Estate Societies.

Professor Stanley McGreal, University of Ulster
Stanley McGreal, Professor of Property Research and Director of the Built Environment Research Institute, University of Ulster. Professor McGreal has been involved in major research contracts funded by government departments and agencies, the European Commission, research councils, charities and the private sector. Urban renewal strategies, regeneration, housing and the property investment market have been central themes of his research with particular implications for policy and delivery mechanisms. Professor McGreal has over 300 published works and has been an invited speaker at several conferences. He holds membership of a number of editorial boards of leading journals and serves on various international committees. Professor McGreal’s research has been recognized through a number of international awards including in 2011 the best paper prize on Real Estate Cycles awarded by the American Real Estate Society. He was President of the International Real Estate Society in 2004 ‐ 2005, in 2006 he received the European Real Estate Society Service Award and in 2007 the International Real Estate Society Award for outstanding service to the European Real Estate Society and the International Real Estate Society. Stanley McGreal has held a number of external appointments and currently is an Adjunct Professor, Division of Business, University of South Australia. He is managing editor of the Journal of European Real Estate Research, the official journal of the European Real Estate Society. Professor McGreal is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
YB Senator Tan Sri Dato’ Sr Abdul Rahim Abdul Rahman, Rahim & Co Chartered Surveyors Sdn Bhd
YB Senator Tan Sri Dato’ Sr Abdul Rahim Abdul Rahman is the Executive Chairman of Rahim & Co. Chartered Surveyors Sdn Bhd. He started his career in valuation in 1967 after graduating from the College of Estate Management in London University. Throughout his career that span over 40 years, he has received numerous honours and awards for his contribution to the valuation fraternity, the real estate profession and the nation as a whole. Among his significant achievements was being the 1st Malaysian to be elected as the Deputy World President of FIABCI International in May 1990 and conferment of the Malaysian Surveyor of the Year Award by RISM in 2010. YB Senator Tan Sri Dato’ Sr Abdul Rahim is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, UK. He is a registered Valuer and Registered Estate Agent with the Board of Valuers, Appraises & Estate Agents Malaysia. He is also Past President of RISM, PEPS and FIABCI Malaysian Chapter.

Mr. Kamarulzaman Hassan, EPF Malaysia
Mr Kamarulzaman graduated with a Bachelor in Business Administration (Majoring in Finance) from Ohio University, USA and obtained his Master of Business Administration (Finance) from the Oklahoma City University, USA. He started his career as a research analyst in Fima Securities in August 1999 and later move on to KL City Securities holding the same position. In June 2002, he was hand picked to join Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH) as Research Manager to help restructure LTH’s investment portfolio following the Asian Financial Crisis. Upon completing his contract, he moves to join CIMB Securities as an analyst in June 2004.
Subsequently, Mr Kamarul joined Avenue Securities as a Senior Analyst in October 2004. During his tenure there, he was voted the best construction analyst in 2004 by The Edge, runner‐up in the construction industry in 2005 and also voted top 50 best analysts in Malaysia by Asiamoney in year 2005. He was also part of the Avenue research team which was awarded the Best Research House in Malaysia for two consecutive years from 2004 beating the other bigger research house local and foreign.
Upon the merger of Avenue and ECM Libra, he decided to move on to TA Securities. In 2007, Mr. Kamarul was again recognised as the top analyst in the Best Discovery Stock by The Edge. He is well verse and has broad knowledge on the market having covered the auto, banking, gaming, industrial products, consumer, telecommunication, media, property, building materials, construction, water and infrastructure sectors.
Taking on a new challenge, he has in 2008 joined Employee Provident Fund (EPF), setting up the EPF Global Real Estate unit. He has reviewed opportunities in excess of USD30 billion globally and has secured more than USD6 billion worth of assets in Malaysia, United Kingdom, United States, Germany, France and Australia for EPF.
Mr. Thirukumaran Jallendran, Lend Lease
Thiru is the Sustainability Director for TRX Lifestyle Quarter, Lend Lease. He has over 17 years of property industry experience and has worked across the spectrum of the property sector, including high profile strategic projects in Malaysia such as Setia City Mall, Public Mutual Tower and JKG Tower. He is a Professional Engineer registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia and a Member of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia.
Thiru is a founding member and the Vice President of the Malaysia Green Building Confederation (MGBC). In addition to heading the MGBC’s Research and Development Committee, Thiru is the Chairman of the Green Pages Malaysia Sub‐committee as well as the Editor of the Green Pages Malaysia green building products and services directory. He sits on the GBI Technical Committee, responsible for the development of the Green Building Index Malaysia (GBI) and was the Chair of the GBI Interiors Tool Working Committee.
Professor Dr. Graeme Newell
Professor Dr. Graeme Newell is a Professor of Property Investment at the University of Western Sydney in Australia and Executive Director of the International Real Estate Society. He is a Fellow of the Australian Property Institute and a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. He has published over 200 property research papers and conference papers in Australia, USA, United Kingdom, Europe and Asia. His fields of specialisation are property portfolios, property risk analysis, portfolio analysis and property investment vehicles.
He was the first President of PRRES and won the PRRES achievement award in 1998. He has also held the leadership roles with the International Real Estate Society (IRES). He won the IRES Achievement Award in 1998 and IRES Service Award in 2013
Professor Sr Dr. Ting Kien Hwa
Professor Sr Dr. Ting Kien Hwa is the Head of Centre for Real Estate Research (COREResearch), Universiti Teknologi MARA, Shah Alam, Selangor. Dr. Ting has been a registered valuer and registered estate agent since 1999 and is a Fellow Member of Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
Currently Dr. Ting serves as the Editor for the Malaysian Surveyor and the International Surveying Research Journal (ISrJ) of the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia.
Dr. Ting is a Board member of the Pacific Rim Real Estate Society, Board member of RICS Malaysia, a member of the NAPREC Expert Panel, INSPEN and an Academic Member of Asia Pacific Real Estate Association (APREA). In August 2013, Dr. Ting has been appointed a member of the Standards Setting Committee to develop a global standard, known as International Property Measurement Standards (IPMS) for measuring direct property.
